Cake Smash photoshoots are a recent trend that have this amazing way of celebrating a baby’s first year of life and saying CHEERS to all that has been and all that is to come.
What distinguishes my Cake Smash shoots from some others is the fact that my goal is to make it a full family affair. When you look back on the photos years down the road, there is nothing better than being able to reminisce about not just your child’s first birthday, but the state of your whole family at that precious time. So I encourage parents to gear up siblings for the fun and even to be part of the shoot themselves if they’re comfortable!
Usually these sessions take place in the eleventh month of the child’s life so that you can have the photos back and ready for use in time for the big day. It doesn’t get any cuter than an invitation to a first birthday party adorned with a cake smash photo cover!
A few weeks before the shoot I meet with clients to style the session and set a vision together. This makes the session flow very smoothly and ensures that we are all on the same page. I have a huge array of outfits available including tutus and headpieces that you are more than welcome to draw upon.
When planning the cake smash session, I usually include 3 setups, as you can see from Kaia’s shoot below. The first and second setups include updated photos of your child to celebrate the momentous occasion of turning ONE! These are images that you will be thrilled to have to frame and display in your home. This is a time for them to be themselves and my goal is to capture their little personalities. After that, the cake smash happens! This moment has been anticipated for the whole year and it’s a great time to sing and simply soak up the moment of your little one enjoying their cake. I usually ask parents and siblings to join in on the fun during this time so I can capture those treasured memories of the whole family. Then, if you would like, I include some bath time fun to wrap things up. This little one did a boho cake smash and milk bath session and it was a session of such joy.
If there is a special little one in your life with a one year celebration on the horizon, I would love to hear from you to start planning this one-time opportunity.
