I didn’t really understand what precious moments were fully until I met Kim. She had posted in an Aylmer mommy group that she was looking for a photographer for a special project that was time sensitive. For some reason, I knew what it was right away, and I private messaged Kim asking her to call me the following day. She did, and my life will never be the same.
Kim told me that she was sick and wanted family photos done in her home as she wasn’t well. She added that she would also need a photo for the funeral home. My heart sank as I sat and thought about this. My heart ached for Kim – a wife, a mother, a sister, a daughter, and a friend.
The plan was for a family session and Kim told me that this was very important to her and that it needed to be done soon. Kim has been fighting cancer for four years, but she now has stage four cancer. Time is precious.
I booked her session the following day and brought my assistant Jeanetta with me. Jeanetta is a special friend who has helped me many times and knows all to well the pain and anguish that comes with cancer as she lost her husband to cancer just a couple of years ago.
This is my very first lifestyle session. I didn’t know what to expect, as I usually meet all my clients prior to booking a session, this time I was entering into an unknown, not knowing what to expect, what to think, or what to say. I decided that I was going to treat this session like any other family session, I am here to capture a family. The smile, laughs, and the interaction.
We started in the living room at the front of the house. Kim is beautiful as she sits next to her husband and son, her mother also there. It didn’t take long to see the laughter and love this family have for each other, and I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to tell their story.
Kim ordered some prints and later asked if I knew where to purchase an album. I told her that I make them and she ordered an album for her son Liam. Creating her album was a labor of love, knowing just how precious these memories will be for him. I asked Kim if I could share her story and she said absolutely, she thought that if someone heard her story that they would take the time to arrange the same thing.
Whether you hire a professional or take them yourself. Take time to capture and print those memories, display them where your children can see their very own precious moments.
This is what Kim had to say about her experience:
“THANK YOU, Betty Lee, and your assistant for taking the most amazing photos during a challenging period in my family’s life. Each photo reflects the precious moments of love, happiness and togetherness I wanted captured. The photos are just perfect! I loved how you took your time to ensure the lighting or the positioning of everyone was just right. In my view, the photos are not cookie cutter styled in any way, which makes them so unique. And I absolutely loved how the album and all the other prints were presented with such care and sophistication. These photos will be cherished by my family for years to come. I thank you for helping me create such important memories during such a difficult moment in my life.” Kimberly Melnyk
